The Lamborghini Miura

A little over a year ago, we brought a new collie puppy into our home.  We had to make the big decision on what to name her.  Since we are huge car fans, we wanted her name to reflect our love of cars.  But it had to be something special.  After a lot of thought, we named our new collie puppy, Miura.  She is named after the first Lamborghini ever built, the Lamborghini Miura.

The Lamborghini Miura was built in Italy between the years of 1966 and 1973.  The car received its name from the Spanish ranch of legendary bull breeder Don Antonio Miura, whose bulls had a strong attack instinct.
The Lamborghini Miura is considered by some to be the trend setter in high performance, two-seater, mid-engine sports cars.   There was only 763 cars built.  One very interesting fact about the Miura is the overall size of the car.  The length of the car is 171.6 inches with a width of 69.3 inches, but the height is only 41.5 inches, which is as tall as my 5 year son.
There are a couple of different models of the Miura.  The early ones as known as P400 & there were 275 produced between 1966 and 1969.  They had a V12 engine mounted transversely and produced 350 HP.  This car was a huge success for Lamborghini despite its at the time steep $20,000 USD price tag.
The next model known as P400s or the Miura S was introduced at the Turin Motorshow in 1968.  Engine changes were good for an additional 20HP.  There were 338 produced between December 1968 and 1971.
The last and most well known Miura was the P400SV or the Miura SV.  The engine changes gave an additional 15HP to up it to 385HP.  The SV model is easily identified from the previous models because of its lack of “eyebrows” over the headlights & the wider fenders.  There were 150 Miura SVs produced.
On January 5, 2006 a Miura Concept was presented at the American Museum of Television and Radio.  The Concept made its official debut at the North American International Auto Show two weeks later.  It’s the first design by the new Lamborghini chief, Walter de’Silva and commemorates the 1966 introduction of the original Miura.  Lamborghini though has denied that the concept will return the Miura to production.  Personally, I would love to see the Concept be produced but I do understand that they considered the concept a celebration of their history.  But how awesome would that car be?!

I have never seen a Lamborghini Miura in person and though I would love to, highly doubt that I ever will.  It has been a dream car for me the more I read and look at this car.  It is amazing to me what this car can do.  It was the first SuperCar.  So thank you Lamborghini Miura for starting the world of SuperCars.  What a wonderful world that is!

World of Wheels

Back in February, my husband & I, along with our two kids & my dad, went to see the World of Wheels show in Pittsburgh.  It was a nice time that we had together.  The cars there were also very nice.  I would like to share some pictures of the highlights there.
This was the first car that we looked at.  The gentleman that owned this spectular car was super nice.  He was asking all kids if they wanted to sit in the car & have their picture taken with it.  Unfortunately, my son did not want to.  I would have loved to have his picture sitting in this car.
This Corvette is just beautiful!
Two stunning hot rods.
A very beautful Dodge Charger.  And if I am remembering this correctly, this car has a Hemi in it also.

I am working on getting my husband to write a few notes into this blog.  Hopefully by this weekend he will be ready to write on it also.  He is the one with all the car knowledge.  I am the one that enjoys taking pictures of them & looking at them.  We both though do enjoy driving them.  We are planning on going to several car shows this summer with our cars.  As I get our schedule of car shows, I will post them to our blog.  We never really know what car we will be taking, unless the show is for a specific car.  But it will be one of our three cars pictured at the top of our blog.

Detroit Auto Show January 2012

Back in January, Mike & I, along with our kids, went to the Detroit Auto show.  For me, it was my first time.  Mike had been there before & loved it.  I would like to share some pictures of our time at the show.  It was a wonderful time though I was disappointed that Ferrari & Lamborghini were not there.  I had really wanted to see their display of cars.

This was a new BMW Concept.  I can not remember if it was an electric concept for BMW since it has been a while.  But it defintely looks for cool.

Talk about a really nice car!  Here is the new NSX.  I really liked this car.

Now I was really excited when I saw this car.  Mike & I watch West Coast Customs all the time & this is one of their cars.  I think that they really do nice work on their cars.  And it is one of my favorite car shows to watch.  The paint job on this car is just incredible!
I think that this was my son's favorite car at the Detroit Auto Show.  He is very much into Hot Wheels so when he saw this car, he went nuts.  The paint job on this car is spectacular!  And to have it on a Hot Wheel track was just the icing on the cake.  Great display!

And last, but certainly not least, is the Lexu LFA.  I never saw one in person until the Detroit Auto Show.  Very cool looking car.
Hopefully, we will be making the trip back out there again next January.  But I wanted to share some of the highlights we found while we were there.  They put on a great show & the displays there are incredible.  It was by far the best auto show that I have ever been too.

Introduction

Let me introduce us.  I'm Dawn & my husband is Mike.  We have two small children, a boy, Zach, & a girl, Kelli.  And we all love cars.  We currently own three cars, other than our everyday cars.
The first one is a bright red 1994 Dodge Viper.  That car is my husband's as I am too short to be able to drive it.  They did not put the adjustable pedals in that one & the seat does move up very far.
We just recently purchased a 2007 Ford Mustang Parnelli Jones Saleen edition #190 out of 500.  This is my car.  And I love it!  Not anywhere as fast as the Viper, but a very fun car to drive.  We traded in a 1992 Corvette for this car.  Since the kids came along, we needed a car that we could all go in.
And last, but certainly not least, we have a 1969 Dodge Charger General Lee.  It is a fun car to take places.  No matter where we take it, everyone wants a picture taken with it.  We have had this car in several parades around our hometown.  And yes, it has the Dixie horn too.
My family loves to go to car cruises.  We attend as many car cruises as we can.  I also attended my first Detroit Auto Show this year.  Loved it!  Hopefully we can go again next year.  On my next post, I will talk a little bit about it & post some pictures.

Stop on back soon!
